The SIMULANT trailer.

SIMULANT looks ambitious. I just don’t know yet if it looks competent. Aside from anything else, I don’t think society could get to this point without people yelling, pounding the tables, and (most importantly) dropping restraining orders about various issues involving actually sapient AI. Also: just once I’d like to see the corporation be the good guys in one of these things. Admittedly, I’m only assuming that they’re going to be portrayed as the villains, but can you blame me for that?

  1. I’d love to see realism, honestly. Let the corp be the *grudging* goodguys. Like, they start out, they notice the problem. They look into whether or not they can exploit it. They decide that it’s too toxic and will burn them badly if they try. The heroes (one or more of which are probably corporate employees) start getting some resistance and possibly mild subversion attempts as the corp tries to figure out if they can sweep it under the rug. They decide that that’s just not happening either. Finally, you hit the point where the heroes are stopped at the final gate or whatever, all seems lost, and the corp shows up to play big damn heroes, fix whatever the final issue was, and successfully spin it so that every single bit of liability and bad press drops on some *other* corp, who they’ve been in competition with this whole time – perhaps one who was acting slightly scummier, on somewhat different ways.

“Well yes. That’s true. It can be difficult, sometimes, to decide which story is the most correct. There’s so many things to consider. I’ll give you another. Should it come to pass that you conclude that *our* story is the most accurate description of recent events, I’ve been authorized to deploy the legal department on your behalf in this and certain related matters. Honestly, Mr Hendrickson, I think you could use a good legal department, right about now.”

Considering all Movies are MADE by Giant Corporations, the disconnect is….strange. Are even the top level execs deluded into thinking they’re ‘creative’ and that obviates their corporatosity?

Yes I made it up. If you know a real word for it, tell me.
