I’m trying to keep this one smaller.
“You’re not in trouble, Joey,” Luis told me. I apparently rated the big boss today. Well, the big boss for Europa. Salmaria has a lot of little offices out here. Besides, we play cards on the weekend. “We got some prime nogo bullshit going on, that’s all.”
I squinted at him. I was a slushfitter, not a photon pusher, but even I knew how things went. “Nogo? Since when did the Authority start caring about what we do out here?” Which was a nicer, not to mention safer, way of asking, Did we stop paying off the Lunar Authority?
Luis shook his head. “Nah, it’s not them. This bullshit’s coming out of UNSO, for once.”
That made even less sense. “What are the blueheads doing out here?”
“Being real pains in the ass, looks like. Although we have just the one, so far. UNSO Field Inspector Baskhi Chumley, if you please, and even if you don’t. She bounced down this morning, started throwing her weight around like it had the mass to back it up. It hasn’t even been a day yet, and I’m already about to toss her out the airlock.”
“So, a regular nogo, then.” I scratched my head. “What does she want?”
