The Liber Oblitus is the sort of elaborate in-joke that the HPL Historical Society excels at. To us, it is obviously a Cthulhu Mythos tome, but the fictional universe that it springs from doesn’t really know what a ‘Cthulhu Mythos tome’ actually is. They’re therefore stuck trying to describe what they have in terms that make sense to them, and failing utterly. …Which absolutely resonates with modern Cthulhu Mythos themes.

I would love to have a collection of works like these on one of my office shelves, just to have something really weird to contrast with the technical manuals and more mundane gaming books. I’d never use them for a campaign, but they’d be amusing conversation starters.
