I am not exactly of two minds on this; it’s more like I had two mildly divergent impulses in my response. First one:
.aannnnd here’s the other.
I know, I know. I just couldn’t resist. I’m only flesh and blood!

I wish him well. At the very least, we’ll get to see what happens when someone tries to reform an institution captured by SillyValley Left. There will lessons to draw from successes and failures.
I can find no fault with either of your impulses.
I admit, I’m lost. It’s clear that the second impulse has implications behind it that I’m simply not catching. Could someone please offer clue?
When people started losing jobs from coal and complaining about it, one response to them was, ‘learn to code.’ When people started using *that* as an ironic response to somebody on the Other Side losing their job, Twitter quasi-officially came down on the practice pretty hard. Now the people at Twitter most likely to have been involved with that pushback are worrying that their career paths might end up being blighted. So… Circle of Snark.
Ah. Thank you.
It’s making all the right people spitting mad, so that’s gotta be good for something.
OTOH, Musk strikes me as being three fries short of a happy meal, so I have no great expectations that this is the start of some amazing sea change.
I mostly just want my damn rocketships that go up on a pillar of fire and come back down on a pillar of fire, as God and Bob Heinlein intended them. If Musk gives me those, he can be three unsalted fries in a extra-large container for all I care.
Musk strikes me as being a small fry in a supersize container. And when you take it up to complain the person behind the counter tries to mock you for not seeing how awesome it is. He is smart and savvy about his image, but he has an ego that is in the process of collapsing into a black hole.
Musk is a good engineer. His mastery is in marketing in an internet-based ecosystem as one of the High MemeLords. Doesn’t matter if there are *some* flops, so long as the memes keep flowing.
Musk is a chaotic force. I have very little idea what twitter’s going to look like in six months. I just know that it’s *not* going to look like it looks today. Given how twitter looks today? I’m feeling pretty good about rolling those bones.
