So, they’re gonna do a Hawkeye series on Disney+.

This works for me.

It’s from the comics and everything, and Marvel has gotten pretty good at panning for gold there, so I am cautiously optimistic. I’m also subscribing to Disney+ anyway, so there’s that. I know I’m going to end up watching this whether I was optimistic or not.

Looks like the Dumbo movie ain’t doing so hot.

I understand that these live-action flicks generally have been bringing in the cash for the Mouse, but I’m wondering whether Disney went all the way back to Dumbo this time because they wanted to muddle the copyright waters. This dude is saying no, and he raises some fair points, but: I still dunno. I could see a remake of Cinderella, because it was a proof of concept; but why Dumbo? It’s not really a popular movie today, is it? Classic, sure — but popular?

The Mortal Engines Honest Trailer.

Brutal, but presumably fair. I didn’t actually see Mortal Engines, and apparently neither did almost anybody else. I probably should have, but this Honest Trailer raises a compelling argument as to why I was probably right not to, all along.

…And a part of me is going ‘Dammit.’ It was, perhaps, just not gonzo enough.

The ‘possibly endearingly stupid’ Stuber trailer.

I am not sure how I feel about this movie.

Stuber would normally just be stupid, except that people get shot and things blow up under logically questionable circumstances. ‘Logically questionable’ seems to be a major theme of this movie, in fact. I can’t help but wonder if that’s a good sign.

Apparently out July 12th.

Shazam! overachieves with $53 million opening weekend.

I will spare you the lightning jokes.

The magic word at the box office this weekend was “Shazam!” Warner Bros.’ latest DC superhero adventure easily topped charts in North America, pocketing $53 million when it debuted in 4,217 venues.

Buoyed by positive reviews, “Shazam!” arrived ahead of expectations, which anticipated a start around $40 million to $45 million.

Looks like Disney will release The New Mutants in theaters after all.

At least, according to GeekTyrant. For those who don’t remember, The New Mutants is a horror X-Men flick that had been in development Hell (or maybe Limbo) over at Fox for a while. Maybe it was supposed to get rewrites, maybe it wasn’t, perhaps it was going direct to video — but GeekTyrant says that it’s getting an August 2nd release, so I guess it all got resolved.

Dunno if the movie will suck or not, of course.

Shazam! opens tonight, so no spoilers until 4/19/19.

I fully plan to talk about Shazam! after that, because I have opinions about this movie and I want to give them. Before then, I absolutely encourage people to go see this flick. It is very nice, and at times even sweet, and I liked the direction where it went. DC shouldn’t make every superhero movie like this, but it’s smart that they made room for it.

PS: Shazam! would reduce the Justice League Lex Luthor to impotent incoherence within five minutes, tops. …And now I want to see that happen. I want this so, so badly.
