Looks like Disney will release The New Mutants in theaters after all.

At least, according to GeekTyrant. For those who don’t remember, The New Mutants is a horror X-Men flick that had been in development Hell (or maybe Limbo) over at Fox for a while. Maybe it was supposed to get rewrites, maybe it wasn’t, perhaps it was going direct to video — but GeekTyrant says that it’s getting an August 2nd release, so I guess it all got resolved.

Dunno if the movie will suck or not, of course.

Shazam! opens tonight, so no spoilers until 4/19/19.

I fully plan to talk about Shazam! after that, because I have opinions about this movie and I want to give them. Before then, I absolutely encourage people to go see this flick. It is very nice, and at times even sweet, and I liked the direction where it went. DC shouldn’t make every superhero movie like this, but it’s smart that they made room for it.

PS: Shazam! would reduce the Justice League Lex Luthor to impotent incoherence within five minutes, tops. …And now I want to see that happen. I want this so, so badly.

Quote of the Day, This Is Peak Tom Holland edition.

Kid’s real bad about giving away the plot to the movies he’s in. Tom Holland doesn’t even mean to do it. It just comes out. So…

“I remember for Avengers, the Russo Brothers are like ‘so you’re just standing here, and you’re fighting this guy and just do whatever,’ and I’m like, ‘okay, who am I fighting?

And they were like ‘well, we can’t tell you because it’s a secret.’ I’m like, ‘okay so what does he look like?’ And they’re like ‘well, we can’t tell you because that would give it away,’ so I’m like ‘how big is he?’ ‘Well, we can’t tell you because that would give it away.’ So, I’m just standing there punching the air for 15 minutes and when I took the job I didn’t think that’s what I’d be doing. I’ve gotten used to it now.”

Tweet of the Day, The Joker Movie Trailer Has Dropped edition.

Still trying to decide what I think about this. Aside from everything else: without a Batman, what’s the point of a Joker? Well, maybe there’ll be an actual Batman in the movie. But still.

The Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Honest Trailer.

I’ve been waiting for this one, and Honest Trailers still managed to achieve tactical surprise for their take on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse*. I won’t spoil things. Go ahead and watch; it’s clever.

Ya, sure, you betcha: Dark Phoenix was always gonna be the last Fox X-Men flick.

I don’t care. Burn it, Jean Grey.

When Disney was going to take over Fox we all knew that meant the X-Men franchise that Fox has been producing over the years was going to end. Well, according to X-Men: Dark Phoenix producer Hutch Parker, that’s not the reason why Dark Phoenix is going to be the last X-Men film in the Fox franchise.

According to Parker, Dark Phoenix was always meant to be the film to close out the franchise. While talking to CB at WonderCon, he explained that the development of the project led them to a “natural culmination.”

The “We’re Being Paid To Hang Out Together!” ‘The Dead Don’t Die’ trailer.

I say that approvingly. They got to shoot a movie together, and we get a ridiculously overstarred zombie movie out of it. Win-win!

Seriously, check out the cast list: ” The Dead Don’t Die cast is led by many past Jarmusch collaborators, including Academy Award nominee Bill Murray (Broken Flowers), Adam Driver (Paterson), Academy-Award nominee Chloë Sevigny (Broken Flowers), Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton (Only Lovers Left Alive), Steve Buscemi, and Tom Waits. Others set to appear in the film include Danny Glover, Caleb Landry Jones, Rosie Perez, Iggy Pop, Sara Driver, RZA, Selena Gomez, and Carol Kane.” …I don’t think that any of those people really needed to be in this film, although I’m sure all of them happily took the paycheck. They’re on screen for the fun of it. Which is cool. Movies are supposed to be fun, right?

I dunno if I’ll get a chance to see it in theaters, though. A lot of movies coming out this spring that I want to see. Maybe if the reviews are good.
