You’ve probably heard by now…

…that David Jolly has won that special election in FL-13 over Alex Sink.  This was one of those races where I was expecting to find out the results about now, as opposed to forty minutes after the polls closed; the folks tabulating the votes earned their corn this evening.  Well done, people.

As to the larger meaning… what do you want it to be? Because it pretty much could mean  anything that you want it to mean. I’m reluctant to let this (or any other special election, really) validate anything, though; then again, I’m just happy that I don’t have to hear that silly Democratic brag anymore about how they always win special elections. Which is something that they used to say as frequently as they brag today about how they always win incumbent elections (we’re about to test that one to destruction, ya, you betcha)…

So. Alex Sink’s people are stealing David Jolly signs, bragging about it on Twitter.

Astounding.

This is, of course:

  1. illegal;
  2. pointless (it’s Election Day); and
  3. stupid to brag about. Especially on Twitter.

Seriously, why is it that young people don’t seem to understand that everything you do on social media is, well, social and media? Aren’t they the ones who grew up with these platforms?

Two days left on the Florida-19 race.

And here’s a headline that you won’t see every day: “Rand Paul Does American Crossroads Robocall to Thwart Libertarian Candidate in FL-13.”

Sen. Rand Paul is helping Florida GOP candidate David Jolly thwart a Libertarian rival polling at four to seven percent, recording a robocall that touts Jolly as someone who wants to “ensure you, not the government, are making decisions for you and your family.”

The call, funded by American Crossroads, a group former Bush aide Karl Rove helped found, will go out to about 20,000 households. The targets of the call are potential supporters of Lucas Overby, a Libertarian candidate who could take votes from GOP candidate Jolly.

Well, at least Alex Sink (D CAND, Florida-13) wasn’t talking about “hewers of wood…”

…or “bearers of water:”

Florida Democratic congressional candidate Alex Sink said immigration reform was important at a Tuesday debate because, without it, it would be difficult for employers to find people to clean hotel rooms and do landscaping.

“Immigration reform is important in our country,” she said. “We have a lot of employers over on the beaches that rely upon workers and especially in this high-growth environment, where are you going to get people to work to clean our hotel rooms or do our landscaping? We don’t need to put those employers in a position of hiring undocumented and illegal workers.”

Why is @AlexSinkFlorida so starkly terrified of @chucktodd? #fl13

Like Hot Air, I am just a touch bemused at reports that Alex Sink (Democratic candidate for Florida’s 13th district special election) is apparently adamant that she absolutely cannot be at a debate that has NBC’s Chuck Todd moderating it:

When it came to laying down the ground rules for an upcoming debate in the closely watched Florida congressional special election, Democrat Alex Sink — who seems allergic to the national attention her race is getting — had big demands: No NBC. And no Chuck Todd.

CNN calls Alex Sink (D CAND, FL-GOV) a liar.

And no, it wasn’t Erick who did that. It was John King.

Background: there was a debate on Monday night between Alex Sink and Republican Rick Scott. There had been an agreement beforehand that there would be no notes or outside help… and Sink promptly ignored said agreement by taking advice from a campaign staffer via cell phone. The staffer has since been fired; and that might have been it… except that Sink last night decided to double down on stupid by claiming that she didn’t know that the call had been politically-related when she took it. Relevant quote: “…the makeup artist held up her phone and said ‘I just got this message, I don’t know who it’s from…'”

CNN says… no, actually, that’s not what we heard.

Relevant quote there: “But we listened very closely to the audio, and the makeup artist, when she approached Alex Sink, said ‘I have a message from the staff.’ And at that point they looked, it was on a cell phone, it was two sentences…” Continue reading CNN calls Alex Sink (D CAND, FL-GOV) a liar.
