Got a cough? Eat some chocolate.

As I said on Facebook, THE SCIENCE IS SETTLED: “A research group from Hull University in England randomly prescribed more than 160 patients either regular cough medicine or a chocolate-based medicine.  Patients on the chocolate-based medication reported improving more quickly than those on regular cough syrup.”  I mean, sure, in seven years or so they’ll come back and tell you that chocolate isn’t good for a cough after all.  But that’s, like, seven years or so from now, man.  In the meantime you’ve got SCIENCE to back your play.

Hrm. I should probably go and make sure that I prevent a cough.  Yes, that would be smart and healthy of me, for certain.

Need a recipe involving chocolate and Brussels sprouts.

That’s just my takeaway from this story about an unfortunate British prankster and the Intemperate Internet that is now yelling at him for it: there’s gotta be a way to get chocolate and Brussels sprouts to mix. There’s just gotta.  And before you say anything: I have a way of steaming, then roasting them that leads to my wife scraping the dish to get the last bits up.

Of course, my wife also thinks that I can’t find a sweet recipe for chocolate and sprouts; I’ll end up finding one using cocoa as a savory dish.  This will be… acceptable. but I’d still like a good, sweet recipe. Just to prove that it could be done.

Today is Chocolate Day.

Apparently, it’s the 460th anniversary of the introduction of chocolate to Europe.  Or not: how the heck do you put a date on that sort of thing?

…Forget it.  It’s Chocolate Day.  There are three foods that I will always consume: bacon, chocolate, and Coca-Cola.  Interestingly, I am not in favor of combining any of the two directly – yes, even Coke and chocolate ice cream.  Gotta be vanilla…
