Assuming there is a Shazam! 2…

…I figure that we already know what the plot will be.

“Dwayne [Johnson], Dwanta Claus, I promise if we ever get the opportunity to bring to fisticuffs, I will be so gentle – particularly because I don’t want to accidentally hit you and then die – I would really hate for that to happen!” [Zachary] Levi said jokingly, somewhat mimicking the style of a wrestling promo (via USAToday). “But I am very excited about the prospect, or the idea, of being able to have Shazam and Black Adam fight each other in the film world. That would be tremendously fun.”

Ben Affleck NOT going to be Batman in 2021’s The Batman.

He’s hanging up the cowl: “Warner Bros. is dating their next rendition of Batman for June  25, 2021. This is the one that Matt Reeves has been attached to as writer and director. Ben Affleck, we hear, will not be donning the Dark Knight’s tights after playing the Caped Crusader in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and Justice League and that’s because this movie will focus on a younger Bruce Wayne. “

They gonna make a Plastic Man movie.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy: “Classic DC Comics hero Plastic Man is getting the big-screen treatment.  Up-and-coming screenwriter Amanda Idoko has been hired to pen the script for what will be a comedic action-adventure for Warner Bros. Bob Shaye, the former co-founder of New Line-turned-producer will executive produce.”  That was half of my reaction, at least.  The other half? Well, Kevin Kulp summed it up pretty well: Continue reading They gonna make a Plastic Man movie.

Aquaman’s early showing theaters expanded.

As you might remember: Aquaman is being shown a week early to Amazon Prime members who buy a special ticket.   Wait. Did I mention this, actually?  No.  OK: Aquaman is being shown a week early to Amazon Prime members who buy a special ticket.  I already got my ticket, so there you go. Alan Tudyk cast as Joker in new Harley Quinn animated series.

I’ll allow it: “The upcoming Harley Quinn animated series coming to the DC Universe streaming service has officially cast Alan Tudyk, known for his work on Firefly, Rogue One and more, as the voice of the Joker.”  Alan’s a good voice actor. Versatile one, too.  What I’m still not sure if I want to allow is DC’s streaming service.  I go round and round on the proliferation of streaming services; I don’t want to get twenty million different channels and I don’t want to recreate the failed cable TV model that is spawning this alternative, either*.  So I don’t know what the answer is, here.

Still, good casting call there.

*I’ll also grumble a bit and note that all of this would be much less of a problem if we weren’t routinely extending copyright out to infinity and beyond.

Birds of Prey update: no Batgirl, villain to be Black Mask.

Interesting. No Catwoman, either:  Birds of Prey will feature Harley Quinn, Huntress, Black Canary, and Renee Montoya, who *I* remember as the smart Gotham City cop in The New Batman Adventures but who is apparently the second Question in regular continuity (also, gay**).  According to the the gestalt of the various synopses and revelations out there, these four will be teaming up to save a child Cassandra Cain (who later grows up to be a Batgirl) from the crime boss Black Mask.  Continue reading Birds of Prey update: no Batgirl, villain to be Black Mask.
