…Look, they had me at ‘Helen Mirren,’ honestly. She’ll be fine playing ‘Hespera,’ a hitherto unknown villain in the DC universe. If she could do RED, she can do this*.

So I saw the words ‘Helen Mirren’ and ‘Winchester’ together in movie news…

…and I thought to myself, Man. If only this was going to be a horror movie about that lady who built that crazy Winchester Mansion. But what are the odds that Helen Mirren’s going to star in a movie like that?

And LO! The universe provides.

The Winchester movie follows the story of firearm heiress Sarah Winchester (Mirren), who was convinced that she was haunted by the souls killed at the hands of the Winchester repeating rifle. After the sudden deaths of her husband and child, she threw herself into the 24-hour a day, seven days a week construction of an enormous mansion designed to keep the evil spirits at bay. But when skeptical San Francisco psychiatrist Eric Price is dispatched to the estate to evaluate her state of mind, he discovers that her obsession may not be so insane after all. Winchester will take audiences inside the labyrinth like house that is believed to be one of the most haunted places in the world.

…OK never mind. I wouldn’t quibble if it was Helen Mirren. As Warren Ellis said of her performance in RED (which, by the way, was a movie that I loved to death):

Helen Mirren with a sniper rifle.

I mean, if you don’t want to see a film with Helen Mirren with a sniper rifle, I’m not sure I want to know you.

Well, I’m not quite THAT prejudiced, but I can see it from here.
