#rsrh Traficant out there. Lurking.

Traficant has supporters?

The ex-congressman failed to meet Monday’s deadline for running as a write-in candidate to reclaim the seat he once held. His supporters, however, still believe the former congressman is entitled to have his name on the ballot as an independent.

”We should be on the ballot,” Traficant campaign coordinator Linda Kovachik told the Warren Tribune Chronicle. ”We’ll keep our feet to the fire, keep their feet to the fire until someone gets so hot there has to be a decision.”

Traficant has supporters. Unfortunately for Traficant, Traficant also has an enemy in (Democratic) Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, who is well aware that if OH-17 joins the various lists of potentially competitive races she will not have a particularly bright future in the Ohio Democratic party. That’s much more important right now than anything so picayune as a fair election – besides, she’s got enough troubles right now as it is.

PS: Jim Graham is the Republican candidate for this district; so if you live in OH-17 vote for him, and encourage your Democratic friends to vote for Traficant.

#rsrh Sad news on Traficant*.

He will not be running for Congress in multiple OH districts.  A shame: I had a glorious post planned for it, too.

Ex-U.S. Rep. James A. Traficant Jr. filed nominating petitions today as an independent candidate for the 17th Congressional District on a platform of repealing the 16th Amendment.

After filing his petitions in the 17th district, Traficant said he was going to to the Columbiana County Board of Elections at about noon.

However, Traficant ended up not filing in the 6th, apparently he believed he could not run in both districts. However, an Ohio secretary of state spokesman said there was nothing in state law to prohibit Traficant for running for both seats in the same election.

(Italics mine) Now they tell us.  As to what effect that it has on OH-17… beats me; but people are going to report more on that particular race.  Jim Traficant is good copy, bless his heart.

Somehow we started from here

Jim Traficant: “I’m Running For Congress”

[snip]

Well, there’s a bumper sticker for you.

Jim Traficant
Fighting for America’s Families, so long as it doesn’t violate the terms of my parole.

(That’s… sort of based on a direct quote.)

…and then we added this to the mix…

This May Be the Greatest Campaign Web Video of All Time

[snip]

It combines what sounds like the soundtrack to “The Exorcist,” a narrator who sounds like he’s imitating Morgan Freeman with the stratospheric dudgeon of Keith Olbermann’s “Special Comments,” and then the grand finale: evil, menacing, vaguely cybernetic sheep with glowing red eyes. Two minutes and thirty seconds into the video, you will be screaming, “What the hell is that?!?” and reaching for any available firearms.

…and we somehow ended up here.

(You can blame SuzyRice.com for that one.)

Really: it all made perfect sense at the time.

Traficant’s back!

He’s tanned (not really), toupee’d, and ready to… why, he’s ready to do anything at all for OH-17, really.

Anything.

BOARDMAN, Ohio — Seven years in prison doesn’t appear to have changed former U.S. Rep. James Traficant’s style whatsoever, and the 1,200 supporters who gathered at a Boardman banquet hall Sunday afternoon loved him for it.

“I was a quarterback. I was a congressman. Now I’m a convict,” Traficant said, his signature toupee firmly back atop his head. “I wouldn’t change one single thing. And to the powerful enemies that I have, I’ll just say this to you: They had to cheat to convict me.”

The crowd roared. After 15 minutes of remarks, hundreds swarmed the make-shift stage to shake his hand or ask for an autograph.
