Gov. Steve Beshear’s (D) precious Kentucky #obamacare exchange is now deep in the hole.

Remember: the state Obamacare exchange in Kentucky (Kynect) was imposed via executive order by Democratic Governor Steve Beshear. It was not passed by the legislature. And since Governor Beshear was so incredibly happy to take credit for his top-down solution, then he can certainly explain to Kentucky taxpayers why they’re now stuck with the bill:

The Kentucky Hospital Association outlined its concerns in a report released Friday called “Code Blue,” saying payment cuts to hospitals are expected to reach nearly $7 billion through 2024. “Kentucky hospitals will lose more money under the Affordable Care Act than they gain in revenue from expanded coverage,” it said, experiencing a net loss of $1 billion by 2020.

Staff layoffs. Patients forced onto Medicaid. Increased bureaucracy. Loss of hospitals. A steadily-increasing debt. This is what the Democratic party – specifically, Governor Steve Beshear – has wrought for Kentucky.  Not that they care. Or are prepared to admit it, unless they absolutely have to.  Wouldn’t fit the official Democratic narrative that Steve Beshear has provided good medical care and pie to the good citizens of Kentucky…

Michelle Nunn cowardly refuses to stand with Barack Obama.

Why is it so difficult for a Democrat to admit that he or she voted for Barack Obama?

That’s a rhetorical question, of course. What’s not rhetorical is the question: will the Democratic party do anything about this?  After all, when Alison Grimes did pretty much the same thing the Democrats cut her loose and left her out to dry. But I suspect that they will not do this to Michelle Nunn, and here’s why… Continue reading Michelle Nunn cowardly refuses to stand with Barack Obama.

The Alison Grimes campaign may now start imploding.

How much money did the Democrats spend on this one, again? – Because I bet that, say, Bruce Braley wouldn’t have minded getting some of that.  Or Mary Burke.  Or Greg Orman, later this month:

U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes is lying about her support for the state’s coal industry according to Kentucky Democrats, including members of her campaign team, who were captured on a hidden camera video.

The video, produced by conservative filmmaker James O’Keefe, shows five employees of the Grimes campaign and local Democratic Party affiliates speculating that the Democratic challenger to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) is only professing her support for the industry out of political expediency.

Oopsie.  I am amazed that there are people still in this business who will step on their own candidate’s message like these people did: Continue reading The Alison Grimes campaign may now start imploding.

Kentucky Democrats launch racial attack against Elaine Chao (Mitch McConnell’s wife). AGAIN.

What the heck is wrong with those people?

A Democrat operative and activist trying to unseat Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell from his Kentucky Senate seat is backtracking badly — and trying to cover up — after a race-based attack on McConnell’s wife over the weekend.

And that wife is one of the most accomplished women in America of any ethnicity: Elaine Chao, who spent eight years as Labor secretary under President George W. Bush.

In a series of Twitter posts, the activist, Kathy Groob, slammed McConnell repeatedly for being married to an Asian woman, even though Groob herself launched an angry attack last year on another liberal, progressive Kentucky group that argued bizarrely that Chao’s ethnic background might explain why American companies are opening factories in China.

I wrote about that at the time (“Progress Kentucky: inbred, racist, xenophobic hicks“*): but I must admit that I thought that such behavior was tossed into the same Garbage Dump of Inane Stupidity as was the Ashley Judd campaign.  Imagine my surprise to discover that the Democrats still wanted to use that line of attack, only this time in the service of a somewhat more plausible candidate! …Silly me. I should know by now that you can’t expect Democratic attack hacks to behave in a civilized fashion; you have to make them. Alison Grimes: boy, I just love that Iron Dome underground defense system!

Look, I’m not telling you to love Mitch McConnell; but this was a really stupid thing for Alison Grimes to say.

As foreign policy inches its way into a debate that has largely focused on the economy, Grimes was asked about congressional efforts to aid Israel’s missile defense system, known as the Iron Dome.

“Obviously, Israel is one of our strongest allies in the Middle East, and she has the right to defend herself,” Grimes said. “But the loss of life, especially the innocent civilians in Gaza, is a tragedy. The Iron Dome has been a big reason why Israel has been able to withstand the terrorists that have tried to tunnel their way in.”

‘Tunnel.’

Alison Lundergan Grimes (D CAND, Kentucky-SEN) is not really living up to expectations.

This does not surprise me at all:

On paper, Alison Lundergan Grimes was the perfect recruit to run against Sen. Mitch McConnell. McConnell’s negatives are high, and Grimes is seen as an attractive (just me, or does she resemble Molly Parker?) young Secretary of State – with potential cultural crossover appeal in the “Bluegrass State.” And it also doesn’t hurt that she happens to be the daughter of former Kentucky Democratic Party Chairman (and Bill Clinton pal) Jerry Lundergan, either.

And indeed, the race is close. But that only belies the fact that Grimes has, thus far, proven to be a mediocre candidate, running a mediocre campaign. And this suggests that McConnell might just be able to survive.

Not Ready For Prime Time Watch: Alison Grimes campaign compares Mitch McConnell campaign to Nazis.

Seriously, don’t they have anybody over there who can play this game?

“It reminded me of the feeling our troops must have had when they liberated the European nations after World War II,” state representative Greg Stumbo said at an event for McConnell’s Democratic challenger, Kentucky’s secretary of state Alison Lundergan Grimes. “Can you imagine what it felt like that you were liberating a country?”

“Well, you’re about to liberate your state from the worst reign of misabuse that we’ve seen in the last 30 years,” he added.

Candidate accuses Alison Grimes campaign of offering bribes[*].

[*”… in order to get the candidate out of the Kentucky Senate race.” As noted elsewhere, the title was a little clumsy.]

Like Jim Geraghty, I don’t expect that this story will go anywhere – Democratic primary in a Democrat-controlled state with a Democrat in the White House to quash an investigation on the federal level and a former Democratic Senate candidate as Attorney General to quash it in-state – but, man.  Democrats do not play nice in Kentucky, do they?

The Republican Party of Kentucky plans to ask a U.S. attorney Monday to investigate claims made by former Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Ed Marksberry that he was offered future favors to drop out of the race against Alison Lundergan Grimes.

In a letter provided to the Herald-Leader by the Republican Party, state GOP Chairman Steve Robertson asks U.S. Attorney David Hale in Louisville to investigate Marksberry’s claims.

…I wonder when @RepJohnYarmuth is going to retire, then.

Because it was kind of dumb for him to say this.

John Yarmuth is in a D+3 district… in Kentucky, no less. He also was acting a lot differently about this issue in 2009: Continue reading …I wonder when @RepJohnYarmuth is going to retire, then.

#waronwomen Alleged sexual assault, coverup, of minority Democratic staffers in Kentucky.

Oh, look.  A Democratic-controlled legislature stonewalling sexual harassment charges made by Democratic female staffers* against a white Democratic state legislator.  I’d say shocking, except that it’s not.  It’s highly offensive, but it’s not shocking.

Two longtime Kentucky statehouse employees have filed ethics complaints against Democratic state Rep. John A. Arnold Jr., alleging a pattern of sexual assault and harassment dating back to early 2010.

Cassaundra Cooper and Yolanda Costner, in separate complaints, allege Arnold inappropriately touched them and made lewd and vulgar comments in numerous incidents over several years. Arnold is a veteran legislator from Sturgis.
