The false question of “The Emperor” trailer.

I mean, don’t get me wrong: the premise looks interesting.  Which is to say, In 1945, an American has ten days to investigate whether the Emperor of Japan was a war criminal.

At least, it’d be interesting in an alternate universe where there was any question that the answer would ever have been anything but Why… no!  Of course not! Perish the thought.  Wicked advisers were responsible all along. Wicked, wicked advisers. We hanged them all. The end.

I know that there are a bunch of people out there (some of whom may not even be bankrolled by the People’s Republic of China) who might like to second-guess matters back then, but honestly: the USA was never going to kick over the anthill of Hirohito’s war guilt.  Occupying countries is tricky, particularly when your culture hates doing it.

PS: Still: Tommy Lee Jones looks like he’s got a nice role as MacArthur, there.
