Short version: It Did Not Suck. This is actually much higher praise than you might think. It got me into the theater, when I didn’t even bother with the latest Captain America film (it’ll be on Disney+ eventually), and I didn’t mind being there.

Off to see THUNDERBOLTS*.
After the Friday I had, I rather badly need a sandwich, beer, and movie with Big Booms. People actually seem to like THUNDERBOLTS*, too, which always a plus. I’ll let you all know how it went.
I should know better.
This should be my reaction to THUNDERBOLTS.
And yet… so far, people don’t seem to be hating it. I just want it to be decent, okay?
The Final THUNDERBOLTS* trailer.
I will be giving it that shot. Most of you will not, and I respect that. But the heck of it is: THUNDERBOLTS* knows. It is self-aware enough to know that it has been scraped and smooshed together from everything Marvel had left in the creative fridge, just to make one last flick. Will it work? Probably not. Is the flick going down swinging anyway?
…Danged if it doesn’t look ready to do just that. So… all right, then. Light that candle.
The New THUNDERBOLTS trailer.
This actually looks better at this point than the new Captain America. Which I was prepared to like, dagnabbit. I think that Marvel should have made about one-third the movies they made since ENDGAME, and the new Captain America will probably be on the list of ones not to have made, but maybe THUNDERBOLTS will make the cut. If for no other reason than it seems more in tune with the Deadpool mindset.
The new hardscrabble MARVEL: THUNDERBOLTS* Special Look.
I still don’t know why the asterisk. Anyway… it’s kind of growing on me, you know? Sort of like SUICIDE SQUAD, with extra self-awareness. I mean, just look at this picture. Everything about THUNDERBOLTS is Silver to the MCU’s Golden Age, or possibly Bronze.
The “Yes. We are aware” THU[N]DERBOLTS* teaser trailer.
I don’t know why it’s ‘Thunderbolts*.’ I do know that the people who made this movie are under no illusions about just how far the MCU has fallen. This looks like… well, it pretty much is what you have left after your original Avenger draws died (Iron Man), retired (Cap), died (Black Widow), is absolutely through with this [expletive deleted] (Hawkeye), been relegated to comic relief (Thor), or is being played by Mark Ruffalo.
And yet, it doesn’t actually look too bad. At least they know.
PS: My accidentally misspelling ‘Thunderbolts’ says it all, doesn’t it?
