MTV was built on the backs of videos like this. Seriously, I don’t know how New Wave would have developed without that network to give their bands airplay.

I caught Stan Ridgeway in concert long after Wall of Voodoo was over, really solid musician … and seemed to be cool playing a small room where one of the girls tending bar was dressed as a lobster.

If you get a chance, listen to Stan’s Best of CD “Songs that Made America Great.” His post Wall of Voodoo stuff is pretty solid. Camouflage. Drive She Said. Southbound. It’s all got a New Wave crossed with a 40s Noir film feel. Well, not so much Camouflage, but the other stuff.
As with Don Fagen, musicians whose craft improved but who struggled to break out after they left “their” bands .. alas.
