Of course, with all the scandals that have recently come to light, it would probably be much too believable to be fun. (Heck, the spittle-flecked rant I once heard about the Roman Catholic Church being “the Whore of Babylon” doesn’t even hold a candle to some of the stuff that’s actually been done by some of its priests.)
Historical Rome and Byzantium make Game of Thrones look like preschool. Once the Church got mixed up with Empire and became the Roman Church as a political organ it was quite doomed.
