Kinda sad, in its way. I mean, the way they did it better than the band probably could have.

“Better than greenday” is not a high bar to clear. People don’t listen to them for the quality of sound they produce but for the intensity of their teenage angst. It was a 90s thing. Don’t feel bad for not understanding; you had more culture in a single Saturday morning than was produced in all of 93.
Rebuttal: Blues Traveler released “Hook” in 1994.
(As a Gen X anthem, it ranks right up there with My Future’s So Bright, Everybody Knows, and It’s The End Of The World As We Know It.)
I will agree that Green Day is far and away the worst exploitation of the Punk label in the incredibly cynical and exploitive recording industry.
I mean, of course they did it better. *I* could do it better and I’ve had all of two singing lessons via Skype.
