I also do not regret my vote, however why didn’t we see this McCain during the campaign?

Well , he wasn’t my dream candidate but I don’t regret voting for him either. I laughed out loud when I read the above comment (waiting 72 hours etc.), as I had said the same thing any number of times!
I might add that every time he failed to make a concise argument , stating instead that ‘you people are smart enough to figure this out’ or ‘I don’t need to explain this to you’ , he had me standing on the coffee table with my hair on fire screaming ‘NO THEY’RE NOT DAMMIT , EXPLAIN IT TO THEM!!!” The whole campaign was a complete train wreck , unfortunately.
