Target drops part-time workers from health care plans. #obamacare

(H/T: Hot Air Headlines) I actually do feel mildly sorry for whoever had to write the line of nonsense below, though. I mean, I understand why Target has to drop coverage for part-timers (they’re probably sweating bullets trying to figure out how to pay for the looming coverage hikes for the full-time employees*), but it’s a heck of a thing when circumstances require you to tell a lie this bald-faced:

In a blog post on the company’s website, Jodee Kozlak, the executive vice president of human resources, framed it as a positive development for part-time employees of the company.

“The Health Insurance Marketplaces provides new options for healthcare coverage that we believe our part-time members may prefer,” she wrote. “In fact, by offering them insurance, we could actually disqualify many of them from being eligible for newly available subsidies that could reduce their overall health insurance expense.”

…And I could reach low Earth orbit, if I flap my arms hard enough.  No, really: as I understand quantum mechanics (I do not understand quantum mechanics), all of the molecules in my body might decide at the exact same moment to jump up in the exact same direction.  Apparently the laws of physics are merely suggestions on the subatomic level… anyway, my point is that a lot of these folks are going to end up uninsured – or, worse, on Medicaid.  Which is apparently and inexplicably a major administration goal, possibly because nobody’s had the heart to tell Barack Obama yet that there is no such thing as a Money Tree…

PS: Of course I’m not going to blame Target for having to drop healthcare for its part-time workers. That’s like blaming a mugging victim for going out and buying pepper spray. Target was offering the care in the first place, remember? – And if it wasn’t for Obamacare, they’d be offering it still. If you have a problem with this, take it up with the Democratic party: this mess is their fault, not ours.

*This will probably get resolved by… well, let’s just say that a full-time Target employee should go and get any needed or wanted medical procedures done now.  One way or another, said procedures are just going to be more expensive next year.

  1. The only thing that surprised me was the timing, given that Target is trying to dig out of bad publicity from the credit card breach.
