SunTrust suddenly reverses itself on Benham brothers.

Hey, it turns out that social conservatives have bank accounts, too! Who knew, huh?

After an uproar from conservative customers, SunTrust Banks announced Friday afternoon that the decision to end its relationship with real estate entrepreneurs David and Jason Benham had been reversed.

Earlier Friday, The Daily Caller reported that SunTrust Banks had pulled all of its listed properties with the Benham brothers’ bank-owned property business.

The move came just a week after HGTV announced it was canceling a planned home renovation show hosted by the Benhams because of their conservative views on abortion and gay marriage.

Come, I will conceal nothing from you: I disagree with the Benham brothers on gay marriage.  And they’re probably a lot more pro-life than I am.  And I wouldn’t watch HGTV even if I had cable.  But I am getting sick and goram tired of watching social liberals try to turn every victory in the culture wars into an exercise in forced relocation.  To quote my friend and colleague Erick Erickson: I am being made to care.  I do not want to have to care.  I have heard of this ‘sinister conspiracy to take over the world and then leave you the hell alone‘ thing, and I find the idea intriguing, and wish to subscribe to the newsletter.

This is not an unreasonable desire to have.

Yeah, I think I see a .. little problem .. with the knee-jerk liberalism of their management.

    1. Atlanta is unfortunately attracting more and more liberal hipsters.

  2. It would be nice if these people just put out a list for free on what isn’t offensive so we can all go on with life. Hell, it’s not like it would be a big document.

And yes, the “forced to care” thing? It’s not going to end as well as they hope it will.

    1. You can’t terrorize the populace into submission if they know what’s verboten!

      1. And you can’t be terrorized if you make it clear that you’re perfectly willing to go after them ten times worse than they do to you either.

  3. The abbreviated debate:

    Conservative/Libertarian: States’ Rights = Happiness
Liberal: States’ Rights = Slavery, therefore Thought Police
Conservative/Libertarian: Thought Police = Slavery, therefore States’ Rights.
