The… the… the Pixels trailer.

After this trailer was done, I managed to get half the theater laughing with a perfectly-timed “But that’s just… wrong.” I am ever-so-slightly immodestly proud of that. Because, really, this is just wrong.

The terrifying thing is, somewhere in the depths of that trailer are the hints of a movie that doesn’t actually suck. I don’t believe that they made that movie. But they might have. It’s the not knowing that’s the trouble.

  1. My wife got a similar reply with a well-timed “Why???” after that trailer ran. I was actually excited for about the first 30 seconds of the trailer, but I quickly spiraled into disappointment.

  2. In a world where Martin o’Mullet is Hilary Clintons only serious challenger for the Dem nomination, this movie makes perfect sense. When the going gets weird the weird turn pro.

  3. This whole thing smacks of “high concept” (a live action film where the Earth is attacked by 80s video game characters!). Also, yeah, the presence of Adam Sandler is a major red flag.

    .

It also feels like a pretty transparent attempt to cash in on 80s nostalgia (like Ready Player One). I wonder if this is gonna be a thing now?

The 90s called and would like their opinion of Adam Sandler back.

Have you somehow not seen Click, Bedtime Stories, or 50 First Dates?

    1. When it comes to using the presence of Adam Sandler as diagnostic of a bad movie, I regret nothing.

    2. Saw parts of Click. Meh.

50 First Dates was okay, even sweet in parts. Arguably the only decent thing he’s done this millennium.

  5. I feel kind of weird defending Adam Sandler, but if you didn’t see all of Click you didn’t really see Click. The end, I think, is what differentiates it from something like Happy Gilmore, although all along, his character isn’t the same kind of egregious dope.

Bedtime Stories was silly but it was, I thought, a pretty good movie. I’m just saying that it’s not like 2010s Sandler characters are the same as 1990s Sandler characters.

  6. On the one hand, Sandler can and has been funny, on the other hand he made grown ups, and jack and jill, and then grown ups 2.
So umm. Yeah this could be very bad.
That being said Reagan reference plus Pacman guarantees I’ll probably watch it.
