Peter Clines’ The Fold is supposedly about a team inventing a new teleportation device*: I just started it up, and it’s pretty good. Hadn’t realized it at the time, but Clines also wrote 14, which I read a few years ago and liked, too. So I have hopes for this one.
And this is why creators like to have Penny Arcade mention their works of art.

If he is the author I am thinking about, his Ex- series is also quite good. A mashup of Superheroes and zombie apocalypse. It has the same issues most zombie apocalypse fiction does (why does no one ever try to find an island? A natural defensive position?) but it is decent.
