…and while I don’t precisely know what the title (Bad Radio (The Emergent Earth), by Michael Langlois) has to do with the story itself that’s just a minor quibble. The book has some interesting world-building in it, with a basic conceit that incorporates concepts evocative of Lovecraft, the old Mage: The Ascension game, and Ian Tregillis’ Bitter Seeds without being completely nihilistic about the whole thing. Which is good; much as I love Lovecraft and his better imitators/successors, that particular flavor of cosmic horror is not the only possible one. It’s nice to see some defiance go on inside the genre.
Check it out: Kindle readers can get it for four bucks – and publishers, take note. I probably wouldn’t have tried a new author sight unseen if the book had been eight bucks. Keep that in mind…

Heh, that one’s actually written by the husband of a friend of mine. It’s been on the kindle for awhile, haven’t quite gotten to it yet.
