Early ’80s. When large “diversified” companies got a chokehold on distribution and production. It also stopped being called “Country/Western”, and you stopped hearing about “the Bakersfield sound” as everything consolidated in Nashville.
Although I like his music, Eddie Rabbitt was the harbinger.
