I doubt that Orson Scott Card’s brilliant alternate-history historical-fantasy* CAN be put on the big screen, honestly. This is something that’s a bit… different.
I’m not sure whether this is an alternate Europe or a fantasy analogue (there are crosses, mind you). I’m also not sure if it will suck; Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters seems to have already covered a lot of the same turf. Guess we’ll see…

*On the off chance that you’ve never seen this series before:
Re: Alvin Maker– I’ve only ever read a couple of short stories in that series. Those were pretty entertaining.

Re: “Seventh Son”– I will pay money* to see that, based on that trailer

* This is no small feat for a Hollywood production. The last movie I paid to see was…… “The Fellowship of the RING”,
Apparently it’s based on a series called The Last Apprentice which has more than a dozen books in the series.
I was hoping it was based on the Iron Maiden album which according to Wikipedia was loosely inspired by Orson Scott Cards book.
The Last Apprentice is a pretty enjoyable young adult series… nowhere near as exhausting as that trailer.
I loved the Alvin Maker stories.
But my first thought was of the Iron Maiden album.
