Which is using my wife’s old monitor, because for some unaccountable reason my current monitor won’t work on this one. No matter: if that’s the worst problem I have I’m not going to have any real problems with the switchover. But I am right now DOWNLOADING ALL THE THINGS, so I’ll catch up with the rest of you later.

Good luck with downloads. My computer caught a virus that encrypted all of the files. Fortunately I saved few files to the hard drive – anything of value would be sent to thumb drives.
Anyhow – computer’s drive had to be swept and reloaded (done by the people who built it). Now, I cannot run Skyrim. It will start a game then just collapse to desktop. I have a few things I want to try, to eliminate possibilities, before I take her back to the shop and say “Look; you know what you are doing. This is what happens and this is what I have done. Here are the codes. Just make this work, please.”
It seems to only happen to the downloaded game Skyrim (the only game I have downloaded.) Oblivion loaded up from disc works, as does AoE II loaded up from disc, as does Civilization II.
So download is the problem, going to try some work-arounds with the AVG anti-virus: play off-line (try); unload and reload from the original disc; clean Steam and Skyrim and try to load with no AVG active (very last choice – may go to the shop before trying that one).
Just grumbling and trying in my non-techy way to find a solution.
The HD in the Spousal Unit’s desktop crashed this week and no I am not going to waste time installing a new HD on a three yr old machine.
I drove over to Best Buy and picked up a new box for less than what we paid for a couple of megs of memory not so long ago. Amazing ain’t it?
So I too am downloading all the things today.
