I gather that it doesn’t suck. Should I be trying to see it in 3D, though? It’s not the gimmick that it was in the days of my childhood, but it still seems a bit hyped.

Me and my Dad saw it in 3D. It was good. It added depth and weight in the final scenes. I say see it in 3D.
I say 3D doesn’t matter so much for this one. The only place where it makes a difference are the opening fight sequences, and that’s the weakest part of the movie.
But, no, the movie most definitely doesn’t suck.
That’s because after the first fight scene you get used to it, just as you are used to seeing 3D everyday.

Try wearing an eye patch over one eye (doesn’t matter which) for a week or two. After you take the eye patch off, you will be amazed how “3D” everything looks.
