He was 93, which is not a bad run at all. As to Christopher Lee’s life: well, I am reminded of this passage from Snow Crash:
Until a man is twenty-five, he still thinks, every so often, that under the right circumstances he could be the baddest motherfucker in the world. If I moved to a martial-arts monastery in China and studied real hard for ten years. If my family was wiped out by Colombian drug dealers and I swore myself to revenge. If I got a fatal disease, had one year to live, and devoted it to wiping out street crime. If I just dropped out and devoted my life to being bad.
Hiro used to feel this way, too, but then he ran into Raven. In a way, this was liberating. He no longer has to worry about being the baddest motherfucker in the world. The position is taken.
I mean, I wouldn’t have messed with the man. My prayers and good wishes for his family and loved ones.
I won’t believe it until Peter Cushing confirms the news.
But if he really is gone, then at least he’s making thrash metal with Charlemagne right now.
And Peter Cushing was Grand Moff Tarkin.
I suspect Hobbits are behind this. Look for kick marks, down low.
I’m glad they finished the Hobbit movies before his passing.
Agreed here, Sad, but I think Lee had a pretty fulfilling life.
I had the pleasure of meeting him (briefly) during a book signing at a SFHF con many years ago. A very gracious and erudite man.
If he doesn’t get a Viking Funeral, it will be an injustice.
Excellent quote from an excellent book. Andy yes, he was a great actor who should have received even more recognition… The Good, The Bad and The Ugly still remains one of the best.
