In the mail: ‘Time and Time Again.’

Time and Time Again is a time travel novel (guy going back to alter the 1914 Sarajevo assassination that kicked off World War I) by Ben Elton, and while it’s been pretty good so far I’m still wondering how I heard about it in the first place. It’s a more literary-minded exploration of the genre than what I’m accustomed to, and I’m not entirely certain that ‘literary-minded’ is a complement in this context. Still, at least I can chuckle about how dated it’s going to become on the subject of global warming. Future scholars are going to write entire doctoral (and ever-so-slightly smug) theses on how this particular boogeyman influenced our art…

  1. Somehow I don’t think stopping that assassination would necessary stop WWI. It’ll still happen one way or another.

    1. Pretty much .. which is what concerns me about our current times.

Some of the same problems that cropped up then appear to have cropped up again.

Economic empires built on leverage, poorly thought out alliances and obligations, a generations’ ambitions tamped down without a reasonable explanation …

  2. You should see some of the stuff my kids bring home from school.
Did you know that Sally Ride went into space to prove global warming? I was very surprised to learn that this week. (And it wasn’t an unusual week.)
