Tweet of the Day, Would This Actually Work? edition.

I have my suspicions that it would not, but that’s mostly because they don’t sell something like this in stores already. They’d sell something like this in stores if it worked, right? – Or so I assume.

  1. Seems like that’s one slip away from tearing your wheel well to shreds (although I suppose there’s no need for the board to extend out like it does in the video).

They do sell chains to go over your tires (although those are mostly for snow, apparently). Honestly, I think the best thing to do here is don’t go driving in muddy fields. It’s worked for me so far.

  2. It will work, but the board cannot extend but just a little past the inside of the wheel (or it catches on the frame) , and the wheel wells have to be open enough for a full circuit of the board.

  3. Yes. But it’s much better just to keep a spare bale or two of hay in the bed of your truck. It works better, and there’s no chance of anything going catastrophically wrong.

    1. If the plan for the day involves driving through a muddy patch of open field, that’s fine.

If the plan for the day goes *badly awry*, and one must improvise while stuck in a muddy open field, then .. yes, this will work *if* done *carefully*.
      .
In Chicago in winter, by the way, taking the floor mats out and using them to get traction on ice is a thing .. just take it *slow* or you’ll end up needing new floor mats.

  4. When I was a kid, I remember my dad getting the car out of a patch of sand or something on the side of the road by wadding up a towel in front of one of the drive wheels. Same idea, more or less.

  5. Ever see a log strapped to a Soviet or ChiCom tank? Same concept and it will work with the same provisos already mentioned.
