Probably awful, more’s the pity. Edibility is often the answer to this sort of problem:
It’s mean, 4 feet long, hungry and invading Florida.
The Tegu, a large lizard that is popular as an exotic pet, can be a major pest when pet owners realize they’re in for a little more than they bargained for.
That’s when they release the big lizard into the wild, and it has started to take root in the Tampa area, far from its native South America.
…where it apparently has learned the Lesson of Coyote: Man, humans just leave all sorts of tasty junk out there to eat. Apparently in the tegu’s case it’s dog food. Heh. Now there’s an adventure seed for you: “Ayup, we got owlbears. Dang things keep sneaking into town on trash days and eat up the midden piles. They make a powerful mess of it, too. That’s why we sent for some adventurers…”
According to one program I watched The Nile Monitor Lizard is also doing quite well.
