Having successfully convinced myself *not* to try to install the new SSHD myself…

…I’m off to drop off the computer this morning. I just have no idea how long it’s going to take to get ‘er, as it is said, done.  I suspect that cloning the drive may take more than five minutes.  Then again, what’s really needed here is that the hard drive get installed properly: I could probably clone it myself, at leisure.  I will talk to my computer dude.

But if I’m quiet for today and hopefully not tomorrow, that’s why.

  1. I’ve done it, and would do it again.
    .
That said, it can be fairly involved and troublesome (definitely *not* plug and play) and I begrudge no one if they contract out to specialists.

  2. Micro Center? Can’t think of anywhere else to take it.

Still not sure about the hybrid drive – – how does the SSD partition speed things up?

    1. So as I understand it, basically you use the SSD space first, and then after that is exceeded, as sectors are read from or written to, more used sectors will be swapped with less used ones, so you end up with frequently used stuff on the SSD part, and seldom used stuff on the non-SSD part. I think my macbook has one, and it just basically seems snappy.

    2. It uses caching algorithms to keep often used files on the SSD (up to the SSD’s space limit) and less used files on the mechanical storage. So, the upshot is, the files you use the most are quick to access, less often used files take longer, and you the user don’t need to worry about moving files around to keep performance high.
