My wife feels that this is an extremely cynical TV concept: the people making Future Man realize that we’re all happy to complain about reboots and remakes and whatnot, but we still watch them. So why not lampshade it? And this absolutely lampshades it:

I mean, it name-checks The Last Starfighter. They’re absolutely leaning into the criticism. It’s rather invigorating, really. Then again, I’m the nostalgia-target here, so maybe you should take it into account.
*And* they referenced the guitar scene in BTTF.
.
I’m in. I’m. So. In.
And they appear to reference the volleyball scene from Top Gun .. they *definitely* lifted “Danger Zone” .. and those ’80s clips look decidedly Miami Vice ..
.
So .. yeah, this is either going to be really good .. or it’ll be hilarious. Either way, win win.

Mew
The diner scene from Pulp Fiction, too.
The one thing that has me worried:
“From the makers of Sausage Party”.
I’m sure the fact that this is built on a similar idea to Ready Player One (i.e., a nostalgic romp through 80s pop culture) is purely coincidental.
Did we NEED another time traveling janitor program? Making History crashed and burned without even its original half season being finished (unfairly, I think – it was amusing as fish out of water comedy but still…). The slight reversal from past to future and the altered emphasis from history to sci-fi doesn’t seem to affect the underlying plot in any way.
