See, this is absolutely why we have the Oxford comma. Rusty lives in the same house as Lucy and Lou; ‘Rusty’ is not the name of Lucy and Lou’s house. Omitting this comma makes the text unclear. The purpose of punctuation is to make the text clearer. Therefore, put in the blessed comma.

PS: I don’t know who Nina is, actually. This was a toy for my kid that he just got; the storyline is opaque to me. And possibly him. He’s just a kid, after all.

    Although I would have no objection to them calling their house “Rusty” if they so wished, that is not the point you are making. This is about the power, the reach and the deft touch of the English language in written form.

    Any writer worth their salt should be willing to bleed for the Oxford comma. Lord knows it nearly came to that in my classroom, more than once.
