03/06/2020 Snippet, THE WOLF-MAN OF WEST HAVEN.

I don’t know if I love this working title, honestly.

“We’ll be coming up by the river access, north of the ruins we’re here to survey,” Ted said. “The books say it used to be a high school, got used for a while after the Fall as a medical shelter. Then it became a warlord’s den, got fought over a few times, you know the drill. Gonna be a lot of ghosts around there, Maddie.”

“This is New Haven, Ted,” said Susan. She was fiddling with various bits of green-glowing gear. “There’s ghosts everywhere.”

“Yeah, but these are the unquiet ones. The Magicians’ Alliance tried to make a stand here. You know what that means.”

The necromancer grimaced. “Yes. Human sacrifices and pain magic. It hasn’t been too bad here, though.”

Susan spoke. “That’s because the Council sent priests here twenty years ago to cleanse the area. I spoke with one who was on that expedition.” She shrugged; the flaming chalice pendant that served as her holy symbol flickered in the coals from the coffeepot. “Apparently the worst atrocities were committed at the old University sites, but they did do a general check. According to him, there shouldn’t be anything left that’s beyond my powers to bless.”
