I’m taking a couple days off from the other stories, but I wanted to get the new beginning of this one down before I forgot it. I mean, really: why not? Aside from everything else, it’ll help me indirectly with plotting out the rest of the becoming-a-novella.
Peoria Sefirot
Universal Dominion (occupied)
3047 ADJimmy Waterblossom could always tell when he was inside territory that the Universal Dominion had held for a while. It wasn’t just everything was shabby and run-down; the Adventurer had been in plenty of places where the locals were poor. No, what made the Dominion so different was how efficiently shabby things were. The mages that used to rule these lands hadn’t wasted a single resource that they didn’t need to maintain their rule — and sweet Jesus, but how it showed.
This ‘road’ that he and his crew (Reasonable Solutions Adventurers, fully bonded and incorporated in the Kingdom of Virginia, competitive rates, and references on request) was a case in point. It went as straight as a line from point A (what used to be a Dominion mages’ tower) to point B (another former mages’ tower), ignoring any and all obstacles that had been in its way, and it was precisely wide enough for two of the self-rolling carts that the Dominion used to transport goods that weren’t worth more difficult magics to move. The local ex-slaves said that the Dominion didn’t even bother to forbid their subjects to use it; they simply seeded the road with death spells, and assumed that people would figure it out.
When do the two concealed Jedi come out of disguise?
