…That’s a really messed up game, man. I’m not saying I’m not having fun with Outriders, because I am. But the tonal shift was kind of epic. I’m giving serious consideration to picking up the full game… and keeping my kid away from it.

Ok, now I’m curious.
So try the demo. It’s a free promotional tool to let you know if you’ll like it.
Hmmm, looks interesting. Think I will wait and see the reviews first. New developer, so that seems prudent.
Speaking of tonal shifts, after finishing Nioh, I joined the hype train and picked up Valheim. It is… not bad. Different. It scratches a few itches at once. The base building certainly. Combat is fun, if simple. Currently, I am not sure I would call it an RPG per se, but more a potion game. You realize that you character never really upgrades your health or stamina, but simply finds/makes better food in order to expand your health and stamina pools, but if you run out of the good food or forget to eat you are the same 25 hp noob running around in nice stuff. Strange.
I’m a lore junkie, so the tonal shift was slightly less a surprise than the pallette shift. (A lot of the logs and conversations set up the shift, but I didn’t expect them to commit to it nearly as hard as they did. And if you missed some of that foreshadowing, you could seriously have gotten whiplash!)
At this point, I’m seriously tempted to buy the thing just to see if they can get all the way through without winking at the camera. (But the moments after rescuing * assure me that they’re up to the task.)
