There is a vibe to this, and I think I finally caught it.
It really does resonate with the idea of God as a being of impossible, incomprehensible power, that we strain to understand, with the coming of Jesus being a point where it may come more easily to us, but is still not *easy*. The rituals are there to try to help us contextualize, and to let us grapple with the Dread Truth, through a layer of insulation… but even with that insulation, the Truth is still Dread. There’s some real “Be Not Afraid” energy there. I can see why it appeals to you.
