This is a little old, but I missed it at the time. A dozen Regal Theaters are already shut down, with thirty nine more on the chopping block. Fortunately, my usual theater is still fine* – but for how long?
Movies just ain’t the same on a monitor screen, sorry.

*I regularly go to movies in cinemas, and buy food there without complaint. I expect to see at least a dozen movies this year, in fact. In other words: I do what I can.
I’m surprised the one in the next town over isn’t on the list.
It isn’t the theater owner’s fault that Hollywood is evil.
You’d think the studio companies and distribution companies would care that they’re killing the theaters.
But they don’t.
I have fond memories of watching movies in the theater.
I also have fond memories of boxing being a major sport, and of baseball being a cultural touchstone.
Extort your customers, and they go away.
I’m not paying that much to see a movie. I’m not paying that much for popcorn. And I’m not at all sorry.
(That’s *without* Hollywood serving as shock troops in the culture war, actively insulting me, and pissing all over things I enjoy.)
The one near me we used to go to is on the list. We’ve switched to Cinema Cafe; the seats are better, the tickets are more reasonable, and the food is far better and not outrageously priced.
I get that it’s a different experience on the humongous screen, but there just aren’t that many films I’m interested in seeing that way. When you couple it with the convenience of being able to pause the presentation so I can pee, or run it back to get another crack at a bit of poorly-recorded dialog, or watch the thing whenever I feel like it… watching at home is the big winner *for me*. I don’t insist that everyone do the same, but I’m pretty done with theaters.
