Had a good conversation on social media throttling.

As in, it’s suspected that various social media algorithms are doing them to my posts. Apparently the engagement on my Twitter posts are not at all in line with my follower count. Also, social media engagement apparently has been pretty horrible in general lately.

How we fix this is another discussion entirely. Still, it’s nice to know that it’s not just me. Although ‘nice’ is maybe not the best word…

  1. I see most of your posts, but it does seem oddly to be just me and a handful of others. But then my feed is also carefully curated, apparently more than most.

  2. Of COURSE you’re throttled Moe.

You may today create on a website that doesn’t …discuss politics (as is your right to decree) but at some point in the past you were a filthy filthy nonbeliever in and unsupporter of the Marxist cause. Until you become an avowed (and loud) soldier in their (un)holy crusade, no popularity for you.

  3. Social media is altogether evil. It’s unfortunate that you have to engage with it at all.

    1. There’s probably some of that, but most of it is probably the efforts of social media companies to monetize content, and to channel users into demographic pigeonholes that they can pitch to advertisers*.

(Shrug) Or so it appears from where I sit, but I haven’t used social media for years.

      * That advertising companies put together a cartel to enforce rightthink needs be mentioned, I think.

  4. Social media is broken. It just hasn’t finished breaking yet.

And we don’t have any replacements for all the things it already broke, either.

I wish I had useful advice of what to do about the in between time we live in right now, especially for your circumstances. I do not, just my observations on our current state.
