Are you doing something on that computer that can’t be done on Mac or Linux? If not, then a woid to da wise is efficient, as Archie Bunker used to say.

This set of instructions saved my computer TWICE….but you have to invest the time and energy (and boy is it long) and do it exactly as shown…
You should have a bootable Bart PE disc or flash drive with Spybot S&D on it. Also, if you’ve got a wired internet connection, go to superantispyware.com and run it’s online scan; the file gets renamed every time it’s updated, which makes it difficult for malware to block it from running.

Also, BitDefender makes a product (search for it) which uses a bootable Knoppix-driven antivirus/antimalware iso that you can burn to a CD. When you boot up on the CD, the system goes immediately into a deep scan.
Other possible choices: Malwarebytes Antimalware is great, but no portable version exists; IObit 360, which let’s you create a portable version, which I just happen to carry with me.
One final thought: once you get your PC clean, periodically create an image backup of your hard drive. Makes getting back up to speed much simpler. Use Kleo Backup (free and makes a software and driver backup, along with the data, Clonezilla (not user friendly) or Norton’s Ghost (the old DOS version is better).
