#rsrh Bill Daley out as White House Chief of Staff.

And by ‘out’ I mean ‘diving out a window:’ the LA Times reports that the news was unexpected and that the President gave Daley a day to think over his resignation.  But apparently Daley wants… to spend more time with his family. He’s to be replaced with OMB Director Jacob Lew.

Two thoughts on this:

  1. Yeah, I’m also wondering what the scandal is, when it’s going to hit, and how much of an impact crater that it’s going to make.  Mind you, I don’t know if any of that is going to splash on Daley.
  2. This makes four Chiefs of Staff in three years.  That ties Barack Obama with Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan, both of whom had two terms.   I’m starting to get the impression that the Obama White House is not institutionally healthy.

  1. No guys I agree with Moe here, there is probably some other reason Daley chose to go Right Now! The problem is we don’t Know what that reason is, we can guess but we don’t Know. So the question remains why would a veteran Politician choose to leave Right Now and not in a month, or the spring or summer?

  2. Here’s a third option: Daley did nothing wrong, but then nothing greatly improved since he took over as “the adult in the room.” As Obama desperately tries to make the case for his re-election, Daley will be made the fall guy for what went wrong during his tenure.

  3. It’s all conjecture: Did he leave because of the “recess” appointments? The timing is, at least, coincidental.

  4. I think Daley was getting out while “the getting was good”. I don’t think he wanted any part of what I think is coming. You’ll notice Rahm got out just before the Mid-Terms. I think Daley’s doing the same.

  5. If one assumes skeletons in the closets, then custody of the key is a critical issue….

My guess, when Daley went to D.C. in the first place, was payoff to Richie to keep certain skeletons buried.

Now that Richie is out and Rahm is in, if the key has changed hands, no more need for Bill….

Still, it does make me wonder just what Bill knows.

  6. Don’t it though. You don’t want to be the last one standing when the music stops! God I hate being from Illinois! ACat this isn’t as fun as once it was.
