Strictly speaking, it should be “Go to Hell, President Obama.”
The background is that it showed up as an advertisement at a Clarendon, VA Metro shop as part of an advertising campaign for Sick & Sicker, which is apparently a documentary about the Canadian health care system. As you might have guessed from the ad and/or the documentary topic, it’s not really likely to contain very much in the way of praise for either Barack Obama, or his signature Obamacare legislation Apparently the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority approved the ad because they’re not allowed to have opinions on political speech – which, by the way, this actually is; we’ve been telling our politicians to go to Hell since George Washington instituted the two-term tradition – and that apparently has gotten at least one politician in a bit of a tizzy:
“This advertisement is inappropriate, disrespectful of the President, and should be removed immediately,” [Rep. Jim] Moran [D, VA] said in a letter to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. “The families with children and thousands of tourists who take Metro everyday should not be subjected to such garbage. I understand WMATA vets these advertisements before allowing them to go up, but it seems someone wasn’t doing their job when this ad was approved.”
Well, shall we discuss “inappropriate” and “disrespectful,” Jimmy?
Sure. Let’s do that.
I’d just like to establish the history of the fellow – who we have long not-cordially-at-all despised, over at RedState – that wants to lecture us about civility.
- Jim Moran once tried to choke an eight year old African American boy. Whom Moran then accused of trying to steal his car. Moran also accused the kid of having a gun. This happened in 2000, by the way – and it is a measure of the Democratic Party of Virginia’s essential damnation that I can continue to go on with this list.
- Jim Moran is a Jew-hating son of a… person… who sees Zionist conspiracies everywhere, particularly when it comes to our foreign policy.
- Jim Moran thinks that the Tea Party wants to return to the days of slavery: “Last year, he accused Tea Party activists of racism for sweeping out entrenched Democrats in the November 2010 midterm elections. It “happened for the same reason the Civil War happened in the United States. It happened because the Southern states, the slaveholding states, didn’t want to see a president who was opposed to slavery,” he ranted to Arabic-language television network Alhurra.”
- Jim Moran has a history of wanting – and, sometimes trying – to settle disputes with his fists.
Retire Jim Moran has more. Much more. But the point here is that if I ever feel the urge to be lectured on civility and tolerance I assure you that I can find more suitable people to do said lecturing to me than Jim Moran. And if Jim Moran doesn’t like the fact that our dislike of the President’s policies happens to make the Congressman uncomfortable about Moran’s not-really-well-hidden-at-all problems with minorities, well… good. There’s little I like more than seeing a bad person fume and splutter.
Oh, and one last thing:
- Point. Jim Moran, February 29, 2012: “Profanity has no place in the public forum.”
- Counterpoint. Jim Moran, June 9, 2006, at a public forum (the Arlington County Democratic Committee’s annual Jefferson-Jackson Day dinner): “When I become chairman, I’m going to earmark the sh[*]t out of it.”
So Jim Moran’s actually a hypocrite, too. But you knew that already.
