Kenneth Lerer, a New York businessman who is chairman of Buzzfeed.com, and David Bohnett, a technology entrepreneur and philanthopist [sic] based in Los Angeles, are both major financial supporters of Democratic candidates, having each given scores of large contributions over the years. They are both key players in the political fundraising world and wield influence among other donors and fundraisers.
Neither will give another dime to any Senate Democrat who does not support expanded background checks, I’m told — and both will suggest to other donors that they do the same.
I heartily encourage this. There’s nothing I like better than bicoastal types who think that it’s smart to try to impose their provincial, narrow-minded worldview* on politicians not of my party.

*Yes, I’ve seen the polls that show there’s a 90% approval rate for variants of Wouldn’t it be great if they did more background checks? And if the Senate passed that I’m sure that I’d be happy to play along. But wait before the actual proposal shows up before you write down the final score in ink. These things have a tendency to shed support when things go from the abstract to the concrete.
Schumer’s made an actual proposal. It’s horrendous.
