Bless their hearts.
That was not a typo. Or euphemism.
Gov. Pat McCrory hasn’t been willing to meet with the women (and a few men) protesting an abortion bill that opponents say restricts access to safe abortions. But he did stop by this afternoon with a plate of chocolate chip cookies.
McCrory was flanked by four security guards as he came out of the mansion gates. Before stepping onto common ground with the protesters – he went as far as the middle of the street between his mansion and the vigil – McCrory pointed directly at Jamie Sohn, a Chapel Hill resident.
[snip]
Sohn said McCrory told her: “ ‘These are for you. God bless you, God bless you, God bless you.’ ” He handed her the plate of cookies, and waved as he walked away. She said she was too stunned to say anything back.

The protest pretty much spluttered out of existence, after that: after ungraciously returning the cookies – they couldn’t even muster up the common courtesy needed to return them in person – the small group of protesters created a desultory new chant that didn’t even scan and went home about eight hours early. Witness the power of pure, unadulterated cognitive dissonance, brothers and sisters; these people simply could not handle protesting a guy who stopped by to give them chocolate chip cookies. Those cookies hit them square in their self-image, and they apparently just couldn’t handle it.
I’m going to be chuckling about this all day. Cookies. It really is true, what they say about the Dark Side…

PS: It’s never going to work again, alas: offer this group cookies a second time and they’ll probably do something vaguely petty and belabored with them. Which is a shame, but not a reflection on us.
The stuned look on that woman’s face in the pic is priceless. It’s the look of confused defeat.
.
He should have also gave them some milk with the cookies. Milk is the ultimate expression of a mother’s love. It would have been salt in the wound to the pro-abortion people to give it to them.
Her expression is the human equivalent of the Blue Screen of Death. 🙂
I was just chuckling at the story, until your “Dark Side” comment, then it was full on laughing.
That is one ugly woman….
Honestly, she looks fine to me, except 1) that dress is doing her no favors, and 2) her posture is kind of awkward and hunched over (which may just be a fluke of when the picture was taken)
He, my first thought was “Bride of Gollum”……
Woman? Yeah, I’m going to doubt that one too.
This is further proof that I have nothing in common with these people. I would NEVER return a plate of chocolate chip cookies…
