It’s like Groundhog Day, only with weaponized exoskeletons.
…Which actually makes up for it also having Tom Cruise. No, wait, that’s kind of unfair.

Still got Tom Cruise in it. So I’m not watching it.
On one hand, he’s actually a really good actor, and elevates nearly any film he’s in.
On the other, he’s a whackjob who’s starred in a lot of movies that weren’t very good.
.
Verdict: cautiously optimistic, will read reviews, feedback, and re-evaluate.
I watched Rifftrax goof on Paul Verhoeven’s ridiculous version of Starship Troopers earlier this year at my local theater. Not sure why I want to experience Groundhog Day squared by seeing this.
No Moe, that is totally fair.

Like I said before, this movie looks like it lacks a character arc. I hope I’m wrong, because otherwise it looks real interesting.
Why is Tom Cruise fighting the Thetans?
Tom Cruise is a good actor. He held his own against Dustin Hoffman in Rainman. His action movies tend to exhaust me.
Tom Cruise is a whack job but I do not often find him in my face.
I will, as always, wait until it hits streaming.
The original light novel (All You Need is Kill) is a quick good read. At 200 pages, it goes fast. The original protagonist is a rookie on his first sortie and got killed, and repeat 28 hours over and over again. They obviously had to make some change when they cast Tom Cruise as the lead, but there really isn’t much cultural transpositions.
I’m not sure if they keep one of the best joke from the light novel, where Rita (the #1 Alien killer on the planet) complained that they got a big boob actress to play her in the propaganda movie. Emily Blunt from the trailer is physically close to the novel version.
