‘How to remove a door knob with no visible screws.’ An excellent how-to video.

Be damned if this isn’t an almost perfect how-to video:

No wasting my time with a five minute introduction to explain the history of doorknobs and what a screwdriver is, easy-to-follow directions, details visible even on the screen of an Amazon Fire Phone. I had the old knob off in two minutes with no fuss whatsoever. Knowing my usual habits, I was half-expecting to break the door.

Do how-to videos this way, please.

  1. The US Capitol is filled with hundreds of doorknobs that need to be removed. And while there may not be any visible screws, rest assured, they’re screwing us on a daily basis.

  2. Had to swap out a doorknob a month or so ago, and I think I watched this video .. which was fine, except it turned out I had wasn’t *quite* the same ..
    .
The one I had was actually easier to remove, as it turns out – pull the trim plate forward, slide screwdriver into slot, rotate – but .. I didn’t figure that out before I’d beaten the old one into “recycle” instead of “Habitat for Humanity” … alas.
    .
So .. yeah, do videos like this .. *follow* videos like this with caution.

  3. Must be that I’ve played with this kind of knob since I was 10 year old, so none of this is news to me. Yes, I have weird hobby.

  4. Absolutely agree. The worst offender is Car Care Kiosk and their “watch these seven introductory videos (yes, plural) before we give you any useful information that is split up into another dozen or so videos.”
