    Why do you think SoCal became the center of the move universe?

  2. I can tell you exactly why. At the time (nineteen teens), land was cheap and, more important, lots of sunny days, very important in the earlies. Lots of outdoor shooting, and even interior sets were built outdoors to take advantage of the sunshine.

    (Full disclosure – I grew up in Burbank, knowing a fair number of folks who worked in and around the film industry. My next door neighbor worked as a practical SFX guy from the ’20s to the ’60s.)
