I’m using the Tor Bundle edition of Our Lady of Darkness because the other book – Conjure Wife – is extremely good, too. Which you can reasonably expect from Fritz Leiber, of course. In this particular case, Leiber wrote a crackerjack horror story about how a city itself can be the Monster: HP Lovecraft would have loved it, when he was done being totally scandalized. Seriously. The man might have even had a cardiac event.
And so, adieu to Earthrise.
Why is it surprising that cities are an unnatural blight on existence?
They’re an unnatural blight in every other way, why not this one as well? (Heck, I can even cite Chesterton that they are.)
