Regal Theaters closing over fifty locations.

This is a little old, but I missed it at the time. A dozen Regal Theaters are already shut down, with thirty nine more on the chopping block. Fortunately, my usual theater is still fine* – but for how long?

Movies just ain’t the same on a monitor screen, sorry.

*I regularly go to movies in cinemas, and buy food there without complaint. I expect to see at least a dozen movies this year, in fact. In other words: I do what I can.

Regal, other theaters drop mask policy for the vaccinated.

Just in time, too: my two-weeks is up tomorrow. And, brothers and sisters: I cannot wait to go to the movies this summer. Now that Regal is back up and running I’m giving serious consideration to buying one of their monthly tickets. I’m also considering not, because they’re gonna need all the revenue that they can get for a while.

PS: I say nothing about wearing or not wearing masks. But I am fully vaccinated, I am not worried about catching or passing along the disease, and if you disagree about the risks then you may wear a mask without a hint of disapproval from me. I ain’t the one living your life.

Regal joins AMC in Universal boycott.

Interesting. Cineworld is giving itself a little wiggle room, but not all that much:

Following yesterday’s flurry of dramatic exchanges involving AMC, the National Association of Theater Owners and Universal, Regal Entertainment owner Cineworld Group has now added its voice to the chorus of windows controversy surrounding Trolls World Tour. The world’s second biggest circuit says its policy with respect to the window “is clear, well known in the industry and is part of our commercial deal with our movie suppliers… We make it clear again that we will not be showing movies that fail to respect the windows.” Cineworld also calls Universal’s decision to opt for a PVOD release on the DreamWorks Animation sequel, “completely inappropriate,” adding that it “certainly has nothing to do with good faith business practice, partnership and transparency.”
